Paula Meadows made her final appearance for Janus in issue 38 as part of an ongoing series of punishment interviews. As a reward for her good work the editor of Janus promised her a severe punishment, which was thankfully captured on film for our enjoyment.

Of course it’s wasn’t the last readers would see of Paula. She went on to be editor of Februs and appeared four times in issues 18, 22, 25 and 33.

Sheena McBride appeared twice in the pages of Janus during 1987. Her first appearance in Janus 62 introduces her as being 21 years old and born and raised in Wester Ross. The tawse, we are told, was a fixture in her Highland upbringing and she received it on her bare bottom on three occasions.

She returned in Janus 66, now an employee of Roger Storing who had invited her to accompany him to the ballet for the evening. Sadly Sheena’s choice of clothing for the occasion left much to be desired and Roger decided corporal punishment was the only course of action open to him.

As a ‘thank you’ to Mr Whacker for the kind comments about Janus on his blog we’re pleased to feature his favourite model Pippa Marshall from Janus 23.

Poor Pippa suffered six of the best at the hands of Arthur Jardine for a crime she didn’t commit in the photo story ‘Burning Injustice’. Janus 23 is obviously best remembered for the first appearance of Nicola Redway and Priscilla Waters, which makes ‘Burning Injustice’ a good candidate for our series focusing on forgotten photo stories. It was Pippa’s one and only appearance in Janus and the formal caning and vivid punishment marks she received on her bare bottom are memorable.

The Janus Special No.2 was published in 1973 and it was a defining moment in the history of the magazine. Up until that point Janus featured a range of different fetishes (Special 1 was devoted to bondage, rubber and leather and Special 3 focused on underwear) but the editorial team were so overwhelmed by the response of readers to this Spanking Special that they published a further three specials on the same theme that year and the focus of the magazine changed forever.

This important original edition is now available as a digital download and even though it is nearly 40 years old it is well worth a read. There are some wonderfully erotic photos of domestic, schoolroom and uniform discipline along with plenty of enjoyable stories and articles. ‘Corporal Punishment – An introductory survey’ isn’t exactly a survey but it’s a fascinating insight into attitudes at the time. Other excellent contributions include ‘The Spanking Twenties’, ‘Scenes of Domestic Discipline’, ‘The Confessions of a Convent Girl’ and ‘Go Upstairs and Take your Knickers Down’. Fifteen pages of readers’ letters take us right back to the 70’s and round out the special.
