Janus 156 includes a revealing interview with Shireen Clifford (which originally appeared in Februs 3) about the importance corporal punishment played in her life.
In the interview Shireen describes her first experience of being punished by her partner Piers. “He was very stern. He told me to stand with my hands on the stool and my bottom jutting out. He selected a riding crop and brought it down on my behind very quickly; I remember I’d barely recognised the pain from the first stroke before the third was delivered and then he ordered me to take off my knickers. I was trembling from shock but I did as I was told and bent over the stool again. He brought the crop down six more times on my bare bottom and even though it was excruciating, even though I was scared, I knew this was exactly what I had always wanted.”
Accompanying the interview are some wonderful photos of Shireen and Piers. We thought you’d enjoy this selection from the Janus archive.

Our thanks to FW in Bolton who tracked down this early Janus Super 8 movie ‘Late for School’. Although it isn’t complete we thought you’d enjoy seeing what remains of this silent classic from 1978.
Sadly, few of these early films survive in the Janus archive and we’d like to encourage all our long time collectors to check out their cupboards and attics to see if any of these titles might be tucked away gathering dust.
A list of the films we are after can be found here but we would be interested in any Super 8 material from this period. If you have any of these rare old movies and would be prepared to allow us to make copies please email archive@janusworldwide.com
As a ‘thank you’ we’d be pleased to offer a selection of complimentary downloads from our online shop.

Many readers will remember Andrea who first appeared in ‘Command Performance’ (Janus 35) alongside her friend Josie back in 1984. Both girls were severely caned by each other, which was unusual for a Janus photo story at the time. In her second and final appearance in Janus 54 Andrea was the subject of a Punishment Series interview where she revealed that she submitted to regular discipline at the hands of her boyfriend. Her rather lovely bottom was justifiably the subject of much praise in readers’ letters and we’re delighted to offer you another glimpse of it here.
If you want to see more of Andrea both magazines are available to download by clicking on the highlighted links above. You can also view a full range of Janus titles available to download here.
Poor Student Nurse Elizabeth Poole – when she gets off duty Sister is going to have her knickers down for the cane! Sister has her timid subordinate arrange herself properly. ‘Properly’ means that the tender, cheeky undercurves of her behind are offered obediently to the stick. The desired result – a contrite and preferably tearful student nurse and a nicely caned bottom to take to bed as a reminder…
Janus 9 was only the second issue produced by the new editorial team brought together by Roue editor Alan Bell and already the change of style is evident. This little gem is hidden away inside on page 8 and is the latest in our series featuring lesser-known photo stories. We hope you enjoy these images from the Janus archive – if you’d like to see more of this photo story you can download a digital copy of Janus 9 here. You can also view a full range of Janus titles available to download in our online shop.
If you’re interested in the history of the magazine don’t forget to have a read of Jon Rayworth’s ‘Brief History of Janus’ which can be found by visiting the ‘History’ tab at the top of the page or following the link here.
